SBA-guaranteed bank loans for small businesses that cannot get reasonable credit elsewhere, usable for working capital, equipment, real estate, refinancing or buying a business.

- Up to $5,000,000The maximum loan amount for a 7(a) loan is $5 million. Variants: 7(a) Small up to $350,000; SBA Express up to $500,000; 7(a) Working Capital Pilot up to $5,000,000. From July 4, 2026 the cumulative 7(a)+504 limit rose to $10 million (up to $5M via 7(a) and $5M via 504).

- Operating, for-profit business located in the U.S.
- Meets SBA small business size standards and is not an ineligible business type
- Unable to get the desired credit on reasonable terms from non-government sources
- Creditworthy with reasonable ability to repay
